Майнинг на видеокарте GTX 1080 Ti с использованием программы ccMiner 2.0 RC2
Пришло время для ещё одной группы тестов недавно выпущенной видеокарты GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition производства Nvidia. В этот раз мы использовали новейшую версию программы ccMiner 2.0 RC2 автора Tpruvot чтобы узнать, как все поддерживаемые алгоритмы выполняются на новом GPU. Обратите внимание на то, что не все поддерживаемые крипто алгориттмы этим майнером выполняются быстрее всего, так что вы можете брать эти результаты только в сравнении с результатами релиза 2.0 RC2. Нам удалось удачно проверить хэширующую мощность на большинстве алгоритмов, поддерживаемых этим майнером. Мы использовали программу ccMiner 2.0 RC2 автора tpruvot в режиме измерения производительности со всеми настройками по умолчанию для алгоритмов, которые поддерживает этот майнер. Карта GeForce GTX 1080 Ti GPU запускалась с мощностью по умолчанию 100% TDP, другими словами с ограничением по мощности 250W, хотя Founders Edition допускает больше на 20%, то есть 300W (хотя с участием охлаждения). Тесты, выполненные при настройках по умолчанию видеокарты, с частотой вращения вентилятора 100% от номинальной.
Как вы видите в таблице производительности, приведенной выше, хэширующая мощность и энергопотребление для каждого из алгоритмов проверены (если их удалось успешно запустить). Потребление энергии основывается только на данных, полученных от видеокарты и основывается на её пределах TDP, а не на реальных данных системы (которые будут выше). Алгоритм, не ограничивающий TDP пределом 250W может быть более производительным, но с ним следует быть более осторожным с точки зрения охлаждения карты. С другой стороны, работа не на пределе TDP существенно понижает потребление энергии при небольшом падении хэширующей мощности, и в долгосрочной перспективе оно более выгодно.
С алгоритмом BMW мы получили ошибку с интенсивностью по умолчанию 21, которую понизили до 15 для того, чтобы всё заработало, мы получили очень низкую хэширующую мощность. С Cryptonight мы получили ошибку с настройками по умолчанию 10.75, но понижение до 10.25 помогло, и результат приведен в таблице. С алгоритмом Jackpot мы также получили ошибку с интенсивностью, настроенной по умолчанию в 20, и снова её снижение помогло, также нечто подобное случилось с алгоритмом Quark. С алгоритмом Wildkeccak возникли проблемы, так как для его запуска требуется файл скретпада, которого у нас не было.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Mining Performance Review
The Nvidia line of high-end gaming GPU’s recently got an upgrade. As expected, their newest model – the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti hit the shelves March 10th at the price of $699 USD. It was well-received in the mining community and the mining performance test results look promising as well.
The GTX 1080 Ti is one of the few top-tier Nvidia GPU models that have GDDR5X memory instead of the more common GDDR5. The GDDR5X standard supports 10Gbit/s data rates, which is reflected on how the miner performs with memory-intensive algorithms.
Recommended Hardware for 6x GTX 1050 Ti Mining Rig
Power ConsumptionAs specs state, the GPU power consumption limit is 250W on non-synthetic operations. The Founders Edition allows users to increase that limit by 20%. This means that the power consumption can be pushed up to 300W, but some additional cooling should be necessary too.
The GPU can be underclocked. There are no solid data about underclocking possibilities just yet, but experienced users stated that the GTX 1080 Ti has some potential.
Note: As for today, March 2017, only the Founders Edition will be available. The non-reference design will be on sale starting in April.
CoolingThe GTX 1080 Ti comes with only one cooler. While there were no complaints about cooling yet, it is recommended to manually lock the fan speeds to 100% to prevent thermal throttling.
To receive the latest updates follow me on social media! 🙂 PerformanceDue to the GPU structure and memory clock of 11 GHz, the GTX 1080 Ti does not perform equally on all algorithms. For instance, according to some tests, the GPU would not work with BMW and Cryptonight at default intensity, and would only start working after the intensity (along with the hashrate) would be manually lowered.
Other algorithms like Jackpot, Quark and Wildkeccak don’t work with the GPU at all, which might be, or might be not a temporary issue. Those tests were performed using the latest ccMiner fork release as for March 14th.
ProfitabilityAccording to the first tests, the GPU performs the best with the NiceHash EQM miner with an average hashrate of 620 H/s for ZEC. This results in profits of about 2.20 USD a day, giving the GPU a ROI of 10 months. The miner only works on NiceHash pools though, so that’s a detail to keep in mind.
Experts were also surprised by how poorly the GTX 1080 Ti performed with the Lyra2rev2 algorithm, outputting only 48.5 MH/s using the ccminer. However, this might be fixed with future driver updates in a week or two.
Finally, the GTX 1080 Ti was also tested using the Claymore’s Ethereum miner on stock GPU settings. The results were stable, with a hashrate of 31.8 MH/s. The new EWBF CUDA miner also worked surprisingly well with the card, allowing it to output 625 H/s.

However, it is very probably that the price of the GTX 1070 won’t be affected.
According to Nvidia news, there will be at least one additional GTX 1080 model variation that will hit the shelves soon, which will feature 11 Gbps instead of the 10 Gbps we have. There will be also a new release of the GTX 1060 which will have 9 Gbps instead of the existing 8 Gbps.
These new releases might be particularly interesting for those of you who want to mine coins like ETH and ZEC that are based on memory-intensive algorithms.

Thanks to the solid amount of CUDA cores, the new GTX 1080 Ti has the potential to become the new favorite GPU for ETH and ZEC mining. The CPU is new and the drivers that are available today might be pretty raw. According to some opinions, the GTX 1080 Ti has some great potential, especially if new driver releases will help to overcome the conflicts the miner experiences with some of the mining algorithms.

ccMiner 2.0 RC2 by Tpruvot & GTX 1080 Ti Mining Performance
It looks like March is an exciting month for the crypto mining community. If you haven’t heard the news yet, a new top-tier mining Nvidia GPU was released this month, as well as a new miner fork to get the most out of the new graphics card.
ccMiner 2.0 RC2
No one expected that a GitHub user name Tpruvot was working on a new fork release for the seemingly abandoned ccMiner. A pre-release version is done and available for download https://github.com/tpruvot/ccminer/releases.
ccMiner 2.0 RC2 is a multi-algo miner that allows you to mine more than 53 different coins based on different algorithms. Among the most popular (and profitable) ones, we could list Monero and Decred (DCR) (Blake 14r).
ccMiner has its popularity peaks and downs; it looks like now we are approaching yet another popularity peak for the miner, and not without a reason.
The latest change log by Tpruvot included many optimizations, some of which are:
- Blake2s fix, though LBRY is still not usable with CUDA 6.5 (it is advisable to use the 8.0 release)
- Skein512 was re-worked, as well as lyra2z was imported from djm34 version
- Whirlpool algo is now two times faster after the implementation of alexis version
- Blake2s fix, variant built with CUDA 6.5 (not usable for lbry)
- Additionally, the miner now provides more accurate power readings
- The miner now also handles cryptonight, wildkeccak and cryptonight-lite, as well as timetravel, bastion, hmq1725, sha256t
- Finally, some minor changes were made to reduce logs noise

The Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti GPU is new and we still have to discover its true potential. It is known that the GPU can be overclocked – the TDP can be increased by up to 20%, pushing it from 250W to 300W.
However, experts look more into underclocking of the GPU. Some speculate that the best profitability increase can be achieved by decreasing power consumption, rather than trying to get a couple more H/s. This is understandable since many important mining GPUs (for instance, the RX 470 Nitro) give the best results when underclocked and undervolted, rather than the other way around.
As for now, the GTX 1080 Ti was tested using stock frequencies, and the results are quite impressive.
In my previous review, I stated that the GPU does not work properly with at least three algorithms the ccMiner supports. Those are: Jackpot, Quark and Wildkeccak
However, luckily enough the miner does work with Cryptonight and Blake 14r pretty well.
To give you some numbers, I have used the websites whattomine.com and cryptocompare.com to calculate the estimated profitability. Here are the results:
Monero (XMR)
cryptonight algo: 755 H/sPower consumption: 120 WProfit: $37 per month (with an electricity cost of $9.50/month)ROI: 14-15 months
Note that Cryptonight does not work with the GTX 1080 Ti at full intensity. In order to make it work, we had to decrease the intensity from 10.75, but down to 10.25.
Decred (DCR)
Blake 14r algo: 4595 MH/sPower consumption: 250 WProfit: $86 per month (with an electricity cost of $19.80/month)ROI: 7-8 months
While ccMiner also supports the X11 algo family, it does not work well with the GTX 1080 Ti, at least for now. It outputs 20.91Mh/s, which combined with the 250W card power consumption is roughly enough to pay for the electricity costs and generate 38 dollars per year income. DASH is probably better mined with the Baikal ASIC family.

I thought it would be a good idea to compare the profitability of the ccMiner 2.0 RC2 with the one of Claymore and EWBF CUDA.

In Conclusion
The ccMiner 2.0 RC opened new possibilities to mine Monero and Decred, as well as other crypto coins. I believe that this versatile, multi-purpose miner is definitely worth a try. If you find it useful, you can always support their devs by purchasing them a beer or two.
I think the ccMiner 2.0 RC2 and Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti is a combo with potential; the GPU is expected to get better drivers soon, as well as mining experts are looking for safe and stable ways to underclock the card and thus increase its profit. Tpruvot might add some updates to the actual version as well. After all, the version of the ccMiner fork we have now is a pre-release. We’ll see.

Новые Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 (на основе Pascal) видеокарты доступны на рынке вот уже две недели, и мы сейчас получили одну из них, GTX 1080 чтобы протестировать её и узнать, насколько устройство хорошо покажет себя при майнинге криптовалют. Мы начали с Эфириума, как наиболее популярной альтернативной криптовалюты для майнинга на графических процессорах. К сожалению, GTX 1080 не показывает хорошие результаты при майнинге ETH. Возможно, вы уже знаете, что Эфириум лучше майнится на графических процессорах AMD, чем на Nvidia и новых графических процессорах Pascal, таких, как GTX 1080, и к тому же, при майнинге под Windows у них есть проблемы. Карты GTX 1080 обладают видео памятью GDDR5X с более быстрой тактовой частотой, что очень хорошо для игр, но практически не имет значения для таких чувствительных к количеству памяти алгоритмов, как Эфириум.Фактически, кажется, что GTX 1080 работает медленнее с памятью GDDR5X чем GTX 1070, которая использует обычную память GDDR5, и если мы учтём более высокую цену 1080, то получится, что это хороший выбор для игр, но не лучший для майнинга Эфириума.
Мы скомпиллировали исходники ethminer 0.9.41 1.1.3 под Windows с CUDA 8.0 и Compute 6.1, чтобы проверить новые видеокарты, GTX 1080 и GTX 1070. Таким образом мы выяснили хэширующую мощность, которую можно получить от GTX 1080 при майнинге под Windows и затем под Linux. Если вы работаете с Windows 7 или 8.x, то заметили, что с настройками по умолчанию програма для майнинга терпит крах, пытаясь подгрузить DAG файл в видеопамять GTX 1080, особенно если вы используете режим OpenCL или CUDA. Другие OpenCL программы, такие, как qtminer также вызывают падение драйвера, так что это проблемы с драйвером — даже если он не упадёт, скорость будет удручающе низкой. Мы смогли запустить Genoil CUDA версию ethminer в режиме CUDA с параметром -U и добавили такие параметры —cuda-grid-size 2048 —cuda-block-size 128 чтобы предотвратить падение драйвера, но так как результатом стала хэширующая мощность 1 MHS всё это оказалось бессмысленным.
При переходе на Windows 10 ситуация не много улучшилась, но это оказалось не значительно. С новейшими видео драйверами 368.39 для Windows 10 оказалось возможным майнить Эфириум, в отличие от Windows 7/8.x, но хэширующая мощность, которой удалось добиться, оказалась довольно низкой — 4-5 MHS. Снова проблемы с драйвером, однако есть разговоры о том, что драйвер получит обновление, по крайней мере, для Windows 10, что можно ожидать в следующем месяце (сейчас мы не можем это подтвердить).
Таким образом, единственное, что вам осталось сделать, если вы уже получили устройство с графическим процессором GTX 1080 и вы собираетесь майнить Эфириум, это перейти на Linux. Под Linux люди сообщают о скоростях в среднем 23 MHS при майнинге эфира на GTX 1080, что немного больше, чем вы можете получить от GTX 970, GTX 980 или GTX 980 Ti, но значительно меньше, чем вы можете выжать из топовых графических процессоров AMD.
GTX 1070, как мы уже упоминали, показывает лучшие результаты при майнинге Эфириума, около 27 MHS под Linux (под Windows, скорее всего, будут те же проблемы с низкой производительностью), хотя мы этого не проверяли.
Таким образом, даже при низком энергопотреблении хэширующая мощность GTX 1080/1070 не высока, и если вы добавите к этому высокую цену самого графического процессора и проблемы с драйверами под Windows, вы можете забыть о идее удачно майнить Эфириум с помощью этих видеокарт. Они покажут лучшие результаты при майнинге других криптовалют, не таких чувствительных к количеству видеопамяти, как Эфириум и мы не прочь это проверить — так что оставайтесь с нами.
